LONG NECK, Del. - Fire crews from multiple departments responded late Monday to a large house fire and explosions in the Bay City neighborhood off Long Neck Road.

The Indian River, Lewes and Millsboro fire companies were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. June 30 to the 35000 block of 6th Street. According to the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, the fire was fully involved when crews arrived, with flames threatening nearby homes.

The Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and Sussex County Paramedics were also called to the scene. Dagsboro and Gumboro fire companies were put on standby and assigned to cover other calls.

First arriving teams reported heavy fire and multiple explosions inside the home. Firefighters worked to knock down the flames, with additional hoses pulled as needed. Crews worked both inside and outside the burning structure to contain the fire and protect exposures on both sides of the house.

Firefighters said water supply operations, interior searches, utility disconnections, rapid intervention team assignments and firefighter rehabilitation was utilized to suppress the fire. The Delaware State Fire Police controlled traffic and limited access to the area.

No one was reported hurt, and it was unclear if anyone was home at the time of the fire said first responders. Utility providers were called to cut off service to the property.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause. The Delaware State Police also responded to the scene.
