BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- A 29-year-old Bridgeville man was arrested Saturday morning after Delaware State Police say he was caught speeding and driving under the influence for the sixth time.
According to police, Cristian Velasquez was pulled over around 8 a.m. on May 31 after a trooper saw him speeding south on Coverdale Road near Nat Turner Street in a Dodge Ram truck.
Troopers said Velasquez showed “multiple signs of impairment” and refused to take field sobriety tests. He was arrested and, during a search, troopers said they found a folding knife in his pocket. Police later discovered that Velasquez is a convicted felon with five prior DUI convictions and a suspended or revoked license.
Velasquez was taken to Troop 5 and charged with a felony sixth offense DUI, along with other felony and misdemeanor offenses:
- Possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited with a prior violent crime (felony)
- Carrying a concealed deadly weapon (felony)
- Driving while suspended or revoked
- Failure to have insurance identification in possession
- Speeding
Delaware State Police say he was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and taken to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $15,150 secured bond.
