NEW YORK - If you watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, you likely saw Caesar Rodney High School senior Lauren Skarosi. Skarosi, a saxophonist, was selected to perform in the 2023 Macy's Great American Marching Band.
To participate, Skarosi had to submit a written application and video audition tape of her playing and marching. During the rest of the year, Skarosi is part of the Caesar Rodney Rider Marching Band, which placed first at the end of October in the Tournament of Bands Delaware State Championships, a competition new to the state in the past few years.

The Macy's marching band is comprised of 185 musicians and about 40 dancers and colorguard members from across the country. It has been around since 2006 and is under the direction of Dr. Richard Good and Dr. Doug Rosener from Auburn University. A staff of music educators from around the country assist with music and drill rehearsals.

This Thanksgiving, Skarosi and the rest of the band stepped off in Central Park to be seen not only by the estimated 3 million spectators lining the parade route, but also more than 50 million TV viewers.
Auditions for the Macy's Great American Marching Band open on Jan. 15.
