DELMARVA- Both Cape Henlopen and Stephen Decatur High School football teams are off to their State Championship games this week. Two matchups already making history.

The Vikings have not been to the state championships since 1989 and haven't won since 1984... For Stephen Decatur, a win later this week would mean the first in their school's history.

Anthony Didomenicis played football for the Cape Henlopen team in 1990. After waiting 40 years to see the team return to the championships, he is thrilled,

"We're definitely due so I think it's our time. We have a heck of a coach and a great set of young men playing for them so I think it's our time."

A significance that isn't lost on current students. Cape senior Lily Little understands how rare this game is.

"I was like 'Oh my goodness' that's literally a year after my mom was born. So even during her time of being in the high school at Cape, they didn't go to the championships, so the fact that they're going my senior year is a little crazy. And seeing all of these people, especially the seniors I've seen grow and progress throughout their athletic career."

Stephen Decatur High School parents said they are preparing their school spirit by practicing cheers and planning coordinating outfits. Parents are still in disbelief of the win.

"It's a dream... It's something that people dream would happen but doesn't often come true so the fact that we're actually living it out is special." said Melanie Coleman, parent of Decatur's starting quarterback.

Stephen Decantur's football team will be in Annapolis at the Navy Stadium on Thursday for their state championship game at 7 p.m. t

Cape Henlopen will be going to Newark at the University of Delaware's stadium for their 7 p.m. game on Friday.

Delmarva Sports Network coverage for these games will began at 6:30 p.m.
