Car running red light

The city of Milford is looking at implementing a red light camera system, specifically at three high-crash intersections in the city, after a recent DelDOT study.

MILFORD, Del. - The city of Milford is agreeing to implement a red light camera system, specifically at three high-crash intersections in the city, after a recent DelDOT study.

DelDOT says the goal is to reduce the potential for deadly and serious injuries and to ensure a safer transportation system for everyone.

Those high-crash areas and their violations include:

  • US 113 at SR 14 - 129 violations in 16-hour period
  • SR 14 at Washington St - 50 violations in 16-hour period
  • US 113 at Airport Rd/NW 10th St - 62 violations in 16 hour period

Carol Bockowski says anything for safety.

"When the light change yellow, people want to go through," said Bockowski.

However, some people, like Charles Tribbitt say they don't think red light cameras will change anything.

"I don't agree with camera lights, specifically if it's in town like this. It's just not necessary," said Tribbitt.

DelDOT says Route 113 and SR 14 will likely have cameras in all four directions based on the high volume of violations, whereas the other two intersections warrant cameras in only two directions.

City leaders say the Milford Police Department would issue violations and revenue collected from the fines would go towards city improvements.
