Rehoboth Beach Snow Cleanup

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- Cleanup continues following the weekend's blizzard with sheets of ice still on the roads and sidewalks left unattended.

The City of Rehoboth Beach's Public Works Department continued efforts Monday. Director Kevin Williams said workers were clearing snow from parking lots and around city buildings.

"Guys are still out working on mainly intersections, crosswalks those kind of things," Williams said. "Not heavy equipment kind of things but manual labor kind of things."

Few plows and tractors were out on side roads. DelDOT has a snow removal program map which indicates which roads are primary, secondary and tertiary.

The agency is working on tertiary roads which may explain why some are not plowed yet. But the priority system for cleanup and the amount of snow caused more work to be done than usual.

Even just a few days after the blizzard, some people are unable to go back to some of their normal activities. The CHEER Center at Roxana in Frankford had to close Monday because the heat stopped working over the weekend.

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY

Despite the closure, Community Relations Director Carolyn O'Neal says CHEER was prepared for the storm in other ways.

"We had sent out five emergency meals on Friday and our staff was notified that there could be delays and could be closures," O'Neal said.

Most events were able to get back on schedule. St. Edmond's Church was hosting its blood drive with the American Red Cross. Knights Of Columbus Star of the Sea Council 7297 member Bob Bugle said there was not much worry about donors being able to get there.

"We basically had all of the spots reserved and so far we've only had one cancellation, so we're hopeful that people can make it out and donate because the Red Cross is hurting," Bugle said.

Getting back in the routine even it means waiting a few more days for the aftermath to settle down.
