DELMARVA - The Coast Guard wants boaters and other members of the maritime community to be careful. The governmental orginization urging caution along the Mid-Atlantic as storms rip through the area today (Tuesday) and are expected to have a continued impact through Thursday.

The Coast Guard has issued Marine Safety Information Broadcasts to keep mariners up to date on the current conditions.

Gale-force winds have already been recorded over an area ranging from New Jersey to North Carolina. According to the Coast Guard this sort of weather can create "life-threatening beach hazards, including dangerous rip currents and large battering waves."

The Coast Guard does offer a few tips for handling sever weather:

-Stay out of the water

-Stay informed
