OCEAN CITY, Md. - A decomposed whale carcass was discovered in the back bay area of Ocean City, on Friday, April 25. The remains were first documented by local fisherman Scott Lenox of Fish in OC while out on the water.

Lenox said the whale was found off a sandbar in the Isle of Wight Bay, near 16th or 17th Street.

He added that there's a good chance it’s the whale that was found in the Indian River Bay in early April.

“That might be that whale," Lenox told CoastTV. "The time frame makes sense too, because it’s so decomposed. They could very well be the same one."

He added that his first reaction upon seeing the whale was one of disbelief.

"My first impression was like, how in the heck did it get up here so far?" Lenox said.

CoastTV has reached out to the National Aquarium's Stranding Response Team and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources but has not heard back yet.
