DOVER, Del — Delaware lawmakers are considering House Bill 94, a measure that would restrict local law enforcement from assisting federal agencies with immigration enforcement activities at schools or churches without prior approval from the attorney general.

The bill aligns with an effort led by Attorney General Kathy Jennings, who in January introduced Know Your Rights on Immigration guidance. This initiative provides individuals and organizations with information on their constitutional rights during encounters with federal immigration authorities.

House Bill 94 is co-sponsored by Rehoboth Beach Representative Claire Snyder-Hall (D District 14). No Republican has indicated support of this legislation which comes at a time of increased efforts by the Trump Administration to deport migrants who come to the U.S. illegally.

In the neighboring state of Maryland, a bill has passed the House of Delegates that would prohibit law enforcement from entering into formal agreements with ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and have existing agreements terminated by July 1.

Delaware House Bill 94 is now under review in the Public Safety & Homeland Security Committee.
