DELAWARE- On Wednesday, Oct. 18, the Delaware Department of Justice said they secured multiple felony convictions against a couple from Kent County. Mary and Charles Vinson are alleged to have abused and tortured their children.

According to court documents, the abuse of the two children began around Feb. 18, 2020 and included making them stand for long periods of time, withholding food and physically assaulting them, which was caught on video by cameras the parents had placed in the children’s room. Both children have since been transferred into the custody of the Division of Family services.

"The pain that these children endured - and that it was inflicted by people who should have been their protectors - is unthinkable," Attorney General Kathy Jennings said, "Thanks to the efforts of our prosecutors and of our partners in law enforcement, these abusers will be in prison for years to come."

On Sep. 26, 2023 the Vinsons pleaded guilty to several felonies of child abuse and endangerment. The DOJ says Mary Vinson faces a minimum sentence of 30-years in prison and Charles Vinson faces a minimum sentence of 10-years. Both defendants will be sentenced by a Superior Court judge in January.
