DELAWARE -Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings has reached a settlement with door-to-door pest control company Aptive Environmental over alleged consumer protection violations, with the state asking the Delaware Court of Chancery to approve the agreement.
Under the proposed settlement, Aptive would pay $600,000 and change its door-to-door sales practices, according to the Delaware Department of Justice.
Jennings said the company used high-pressure sales tactics, misled customers about contract terms, and failed to disclose cancellation fees.
If approved by the court, the settlement would require Aptive to modify its sales practices as part of the agreement.
The Delaware Department of Justice is also reminding consumers to carefully review contracts before signing them. The office said people who are approached by door-to-door sales representatives should know they have a three-day right to cancel many door-to-door sales under the law and should never feel pressured to sign a contract on the spot.
The proposed settlement remains subject to approval by the Delaware Court of Chancery.
