A bipartisan resolution on nuclear energy in Delaware moves forward after support in the State Senate.

DELAWARE- The Delaware State Senate has passed a resolution to explore the feasibility of nuclear energy, creating a task force to assess its potential benefits and challenges.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 18, sponsored by Sen. Bryant Richardson, a Seaford Republican, received bipartisan support and establishes the Delaware Nuclear Energy Feasibility Task Force. The group will evaluate the viability of small modular reactors as part of Delaware’s energy portfolio.

The Delaware State Senate Republican Caucus says the resolution passed with the support of 13 Senate Democrats. Lawmakers say the move demonstrated a commitment to prioritizing energy policy over partisanship.

Democrat Sen. Stephanie Hansen is a co-sponsor of the resolution.

The task force will examine the economic impact, regulatory considerations, energy reliability, and environmental implications of deploying SMRs in Delaware.

As the resolution moves to the House of Representatives, Senate sponsors have expressed a willingness to collaborate on expanding its scope if needed while ensuring nuclear energy remains part of the discussion.

"Delawareans deserve practical solutions that prioritize affordability and reliability, and we are committed to delivering just that," the caucus said.
