Aspira Holds Vaccine Clinic at Cape High School, Preparing for Flu Season

LEWES, Del. - Cold and flu season is almost here. Doctor's offices and libraries are working to keep the community protected this fall and winter with vaccine clinics and testing opportunities.

Aspira Health held a vaccine clinic Tuesday at Cape Henlopen High School for those looking to get vaccinated or receive their booster if eligible.

"Cape has been a great partner in terms of vaccinating their staff and students, they are very keen to get to a high level of vaccination so they can really protect everybody within these buildings," said Dr. William Albanese, CEO of Aspira Health.

Don't forget about the flu as you protect yourself against COVID-19.

"The flu vaccine is able to be administered at the same day or same time of the COVID vaccine ... they've been shown to be safe and efficacious together," said Dr. Albanese.

Dr. Alabanese says the main indicator of COVID-19 is loss of taste and smell, while the flu doesn't have that associated symptom, but "Anyone with symptoms should present to their medical office, get seen and evaluated by a provider ... we will offer a battery of testing to see what organism is the cause.

Your local library also offers free rapid COVID-19 home tests, no ID required, and only two tests per person.

"We're getting about 250 per week and we are running out each and every week," said Lewes Library Director Lea Rosell.

The Lewes Library began giving the tests out in August, which have been a hit.

"We're getting people into the library that might not be library users, and they're introduced into all that we do ... that's sort of the positive side, the flip side is that we are really, really busy anyway and this is just increasing telephone calls traffic exponentially," said Rosell.

Rosell says if you are really sick and not feeling well you should opt for a testing site or doctors office instead. Aspira is continuing to hold vaccination clinics at St. Jude's Parish in Lewes every Friday in October, except for the last Friday in the month.
