GEORGETOWN, Del. - A long-running study aimed at improving travel across northern Sussex County has wrapped up, and state transportation officials say changes are on the way.

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) has completed its Coastal Corridors Study, first launched in 2019 to address growing traffic congestion along several east-west routes - including Route 16, Routes 404/9 between U.S. 113 and Route 1, Redden Road, and several smaller local roads.

Costal Corridor Study Results Discussed in Georgetown

A long-running study aimed at improving travel across northern Sussex County has wrapped up, and state transportation officials say changes are on the way.

Brian Olszak, community development director of Georgetown, attended the meeting and tells CoastTV he believes "it was really just useful to have different sides, especially the industry experts in the room. They provided that extra perspective you know, helps us, on a regular basis to see all the good perspectives that are out there."

DelDOT emphasized the importance of public input throughout the process. Officials say the community’s feedback helped shape many of the recommendations in the final report, which was published in June.

Local residents can still weigh in or ask questions by reaching out to Austin Gray at coastal-corridors@publicinput.com or calling 302-760-2145.
