REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - The 2023 Walk to End Alzheimer's has been postponed due to the predicted rain, wind and flooding from Tropical Storm Ophelia.
The walk was originally planned for Saturday, Sept. 23. It will now be held Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. CoastTV News Anchor Mallory Metzner will be the event emcee.Â
A wave of different color flowers will cover Rehoboth Beach for the Walk to End Alzheimer's Disease. Each color flower signifies a different reason for helping in the fight to end the disease. Here is what the Alzheimer's Association says each color means:
- Blue: Someone living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.
- Purple: An individual who has lost someone to the disease.
- Yellow: A person who is currently supporting or caring for someone living with Alzheimer’s.
- Orange: A participant who supports the cause and the Association’s vision of a world without Alzheimer’s and other dementia®.
The walk is about two miles long starting at the bandstand. There's now more time to sign up and donate.
"It gives people a whole week's-long runway to continue to fundraise" says Alzheimer's Association Delaware Valley Chapter Vice President of Development Meg DiPanni. "Our goal is $210,000. We're about $130,000 now, so this gives folks some extra time to recruit more members, for us to promote the event even more and get some more folks out that day."
To register to walk or to donate, go to act.alz.org.
The Alzheimer's Association says it encourages those who are unable to attend on the new date to Walk at home and share photos and videos in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s - Rehoboth Beach Facebook Group. Use #Walk2EndAlz on posts.
