Wreaths Honoring Veterans Arrive Today at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery By Motorcycle Escort

MILLSBORO, Del. - Millsboro is gearing up for its own commemoration of Wreaths Across America Day, taking place Saturday, December 17. A Perdue Farms truck carrying all the wreaths to be laid on veterans grave at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be escorted Friday by police motorcycles from Salisbury.

The truck will depart Purdue Farms Stadium in Salisbury at 8:30 a.m. From there, the Wicomico County Sheriff's Department, as well as the Millsboro and Delaware State Police, will escort the truck through the lights on Route 24 all the way to the cemetery. The commute should take about an hour.

The motorcycles will do a ride-by for the residents at The Stockley Center, and they will help unload the wreaths upon the trucks arrival.

This is one of two Wreath Across America events in the week leading up to Saturday's celebration. On Wednesday, an official, wrapped J.B. Hunt Wreaths Across America Truck made an appearance for the first time ever in Sussex County. They commemorated a key exchange between two veterans driving the truck and delivering wreaths across the country.

Saturday's wreath-laying ceremony is one of many happening in Veterans Cemeteries nationwide to  remember those who have served during the holidays.

"To be able to honor them in a small way each year by saying their names after the wreath is placed at the grave sites means that they will never be forgotten. And we go a step further and thank them for their service to our country," said Teresa Townsend, Location Coordinator for the Millsboro Wreaths Across America commemoration.

This year, they got enough donations to put a wreath on every single headstone in the cemetery. Saturday's wreath-laying ceremony is open to the public and will begin at 10:30 a.m. behind the Chapel Administration Building at the Veterans Cemetery.
