MILFORD, Del. - On Wednesday, November 14th, the Food Bank of Delaware, Perdue Farms, and the Harry K. Foundation teamed up to make sure families in need had a meal on the table this Thanksgiving. As a part of the "Thanksgiving for All" initiative, representatives from 26 local schools and organizations picked up meal boxes to distribute to at-risk families in need.
Harry Keswani, the founder of the Harry K. Foundation, explained to CoastTV that although his organization is based on helping hungry children in Delaware, during the holidays, Keswani focuses on also helping families in need.
"Little one's should not go home hungry, you know sometimes parents lose a job, sometimes things happen, a child needs nourishment, they're our future, so that's really important to us at the foundation," said Keswani.
Keswani is also appreciative of all the volunteers who came out to help at the event because he says they make every donation possible.
Hundreds of roaster chickens were donated by Perdue Farms, to be given to to the families in need. Perdue farms has partnered with the Food Bank of Delaware for decades to end hunger in Delaware, and the company encourages everyone able to give back.
"Reach out to the Food Bank of Delaware because there's always a need for volunteers to do a number of things, explained Bill See of Perdue Farms. See continued, "There's plenty of opportunities for people to engage so I just say reach out to a food bank, I know they'd love the support."
The Food Bank of Delaware in Milford says 626 meal boxes were picked up to deliver to families in need.
