DELMARVA - Leaders across the Delmarva Peninsula are offering prayers and public support to President Joe Biden following his prostate cancer diagnosis, which was reported by NBC News on Sunday, May 18.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said in a Facebook post that "cancer knows no politics," adding, "I join with all Americans, millions of whom have faced a dreaded cancer diagnosis, in offering my prayers and support to President Biden as he begins this journey."
Delaware Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester said she is sending "the entire Biden family prayers for peace and healing," and noted that "there is an entire legion of friends and supporters who stand alongside you on this difficult journey."
Former Delaware Sen. Tom Carper expressed confidence in the president’s recovery, saying, "With the prayers of our family and millions of American families from all walks of life, and excellent medical care, he will overcome this latest challenge. That is my hope and my prayer."
Delaware Sen. Chris Coons also issued a statement, saying in part, "Joe’s faith and family have brought him through tough challenges before and will again. Our prayers are with him and his family as he begins treatment."
Former Delaware Gov. and current Wilmington Mayor John Carney added, "Our hearts are with Joe, Jill, and the family. Joe has devoted his life to helping others through their hardest battles. Now, as he faces this one, Tracey and I stand with them. They are in our prayers."
NBC News reported that President Biden and his family are "reviewing treatment options."
