DEWEY BEACH, Del. - A longtime Dewey Beach bar is closing its doors, while several family-friendly businesses are preparing to open, bringing a new mix of restaurants and attractions to the popular beach town.
North Beach, a Dewey Beach staple for more than three decades, is closing and making way for Bent Palm, a new family-friendly restaurant.
For the Faucett family, the closure marks the end of an era.
“North Beach was probably one of the first bars I went to when I turned 21, living down here in Dewey Beach,” Rob Faucett said. “So we've known it for a long time, over 30 years.”
The closing comes as Dewey Beach continues to see changes in its business scene.
“I think it’s probably OK that it’s closing,” the Rob said. “There’s plenty of other bars. There’s a lot more bars here than there have been in a long time. So I don’t think it’s going to be a big loss.”
While one longtime Dewey Beach favorite is preparing for last call, another business is getting ready to bring something sweet to town.
The Frozen Farmer, an ice cream shop known for using products grown on its family farm, is coming to Dewey Beach. Rob and Kerri Faucett said their daughter will be working at the new shop.
“It feels really good to be a part of the family-friendly businesses that are coming into Dewey Beach,” founder, Katey Evans said. “I’m a mom of four girls, and Dewey is one of our favorite Delaware beach towns to come with our children.”
For Evans, the shop will bring a taste of the farm to the beach.
“That’s really what makes our brand unique, is using our own homegrown fruits and vegetables,” Evans said. “We make sweet corn ice cream, one of our most popular summertime flavors, actually.”
Evans said the shop will use products grown on the family farm in its line of confections.
And Frozen Farmer won’t be the only new business coming to Dewey Beach.
Town leaders approved Stoke Cafe, a surf-inspired cafe and fitness studio that will be located on Read Avenue, next to the future Frozen Farmer location.
Stoke Cafe already has a location in Ocean City, Maryland, and its arrival will add another new option to Dewey Beach’s evolving business landscape.
With a longtime business closing and several new businesses moving in, the changes are giving residents and visitors something new to look forward to - and plenty to talk about.
