DELAWARE - On May 22, the DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife held its second annual early successional habitat and restoration workshop at the Cedar Swamp Wildlife Area.

The event brought together professionals and local landowners to focus on long-term habitat management efforts. Attendees discussed progress at Cedar Swamp, including restoration efforts for the Northern bobwhite quail.

To date, more than 1,600 acres have been restored for quail habitat, alongside 11 impounded wetlands and over 200 acres maintained annually through prescribed burns. The diverse landscape now supports hundreds of wildlife species while remaining open for hunters, anglers, and other visitors.

During the workshop, the National Wild Turkey Federation presented a $10,000 check to DNREC to support continued habitat work benefiting quail, turkey, and other species.
