DOVER, Del. - Delaware State Police have arrested a 21-year-old man they say planned a robbery to occur at a convenience store while he was working there.
Troopers responded to a Dover Shore Stop on South State Street on the evening of Nov. 6. Upon arriving they spoke with an employee, identified as Jeremiah Weatherspoon. Weatherspoon allegedly reported that an unknown black male wearing a mask came into the store demanding money and implying he had a weapon in a backpack. Weatherspoon gave him an undisclosed amount of cash before the suspect ran away.
During the investigation, detectives say they determined Weatherspoon provided false information and had coordinated the robbery with two other people while he was working his shift. Warrants were obtained for his arrest and Weatherspoon turned himself in at Troop 3 in Dover on Jan. 5.
Weatherspoon was charged with felonies for theft greater than $1,500, providing false statements to law enforcement with the intent to delay or hinder an investigation, tampering with physical evidence, and conspiracy. He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.
