MILFORD, Del. - The City of Milford, operating as a community electric utility under the Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation (DEMEC), has announced an upcoming 4.8 percent increase in the Power Cost Adjustment (PCA).
Effective in February, customers will observe an increase of $0.00686 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to $0.02124 per kWh for energy usage in 2024.
According to the city, this adjustment is primarily attributed to a DEMEC budget modification, resulting in a 4.8 percent surge in electric bills for average households and small businesses in Milford.
Commercial accounts may experience varying increases, ranging from approximately 3.0 percent to 5.3 percent, contingent upon demand, load factor, seasonality, and time of use.
The city says that, with this adjustment, Milford's electric bills are similar to rates from six years ago. Additionally, the city’s overall electric rate continues to be among the lowest rates in Delaware.
To assist customers in offsetting this increase, the city encourages the utilization of Efficiency Smart for rebates, electric usage monitoring, window insulation, water heater jackets, enrollment in the city's budget plan, and HVAC system servicing. The city suggests reducing household energy consumption by 2.7 kWh per day to fully offset the last two rate adjustments.
