LEWES, Del. -An upcoming program is encouraging local families to learn more about teen substance use and how to talk openly with young people about it.

The event is a joint effort involving Soundcheck Prevention Network, Beebe Healthcare and the Cape Henlopen School District. It will take place Wednesday, April 30, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Cape Henlopen High School.

Parents who attend will hear about current substance use trends, how misuse affects a child’s health and brain development, and why early conversations matter.

Health officials say understanding the issue is the first step.

“They need to have the skills and the language and the confidence to navigate conversations where they might be experiencing, some introduction or some pressure to partake in substance use,” said Kim Blanch of Beebe Healthcare.

The program also aims to give families tools to recognize signs of misuse and guide teens through safer choices.
