WASHINGTON - Fourteen Republican representatives joined 220 Democrats to vote in favor of the bipartisan Safer Communities Act. Federal leaders on Delmarva are sticking to their sides on gun issues, while Maryland is indirectly subjected to gun law changes thanks to the Supreme Court's ruling yesterday.
The most sweeping federal gun legislation in decades passed in the house this afternoon and now the bill is headed to President Biden's desk. The vote comes days after the Supreme Court made a decision in favor of gun advocated on a New York law that required a special permit to carry a concealed handgun in public.
The bill also includes grants for mental health and school- based health and increased penalties for gun trafficking, There is no word on when Biden will sign it. As for Maryland's concealed carry law, there are no official changes from the Supreme Court on it yet, however there is expected to be one soon.
