BETHANY BEACH, Del. - The Delaware Department of Transportation will host the final public workshop for the North Bethany Bicycle and Pedestrian Corridor Study on Tuesday, June 3, at the South Coastal Library in Bethany Beach.
The workshop will run from 5 to 7 p.m., with overview presentations scheduled for 5 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. The meeting is open to the public and aims to gather final feedback before the study concludes.
The corridor study focuses on evaluating alternatives to improve safety and create low-stress bicycle and pedestrian facilities along State Route 1 between Bethany Beach and the Indian River Inlet Bridge. The study will result in a conceptual design and cost estimate for a recommended alternative.
Potential improvements under consideration include traffic calming measures, shared-use paths, protected bike lanes, sidewalk installations, median crossover closures or consolidations, dedicated right-turn lanes, and crossing enhancements.
The project builds on preliminary analysis conducted in spring 2023. Based on that early work, DelDOT is already moving forward with installing three new pedestrian crossings equipped with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons along SR 1.
All updated workshop materials and a public comment form will be posted online by the day of the meeting. Feedback can also be submitted via email to dotpublic@delaware.gov.Â
