LEWES, Del. -Â Friday night around 9 p.m. the Lewes Fire Department was called to a fire at the clubhouse of The Plantations Neighborhood in Lewes.
The Lewes Fire Department reported that the fire had penetrated the roof area throughout the building. A second alarm was sounded, leading to the evacuation of the crews inside.
The decision to evacuate was prompted by the need for "heavy-duty master streams" to operate effectively. This technique proved successful in extinguishing the majority of the fire. After knocking down the majority of the flames, firefighting crews re-entered the building to finish off their work.
A total of 13 different crews were on-site to combat the blaze. One firefighter was transported to nearby medical facilities for additional observations.
As of now, there is still no information available regarding the cost of the damage or the cause of the fire. The incident remains under investigation.
