BETHANY BEACH, Del. - A fire broke out at the Ocean Eight Townhouses Thursday morning, leaving 8 units damaged.

At about 2:10 a.m., Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company responded to a fire on the fourth floor of the townhomes near the boardwalk on Campbell Place. According to Chief Tyler Hickman, the fire had gone through the roof when they arrived on scene.

The units were occupied but the chief said everyone was able to get out safely. The fire ultimately damaged 8 units.

Hickman said the fire took about 30 minutes to get under control, but crews were on scene for 3.5 hours. Millville, Roxana, Frankford, Ocean City, and nine other fire departments responded to the dispatch.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Delaware State Fire Marshal.
