GEORGETOWN, Del. - Georgetown Middle School is seeking professionals in a variety of fields to speak to students enrolled in career and technical education classes.
In general, career and technical education prepares both kids and adults for a wide range of careers that are often in high demand. As they study a trade area or type of skill, students can often earn industry certifications and licenses and prepare for higher education or postsecondary degrees.
Students in these classes at Georgetown Middle explore different careers and begin to gain skills needed before entering pathways and tech areas offered at Sussex Central and Sussex Tech. Career and technical education courses offered to all students at Georgetown Middle School include but aren't limited to those like:
- Flight and space.
- Medical fields.
- Construction.
- Architecture.
- Digital design.
- Food production.
- Natural resources.
- Wildlife biology.
- Software development.
- Finance.
- Education.
"We have the unique opportunity to provide students a chance to experience real-world science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics," said George Schwendtner, one of the school's four career and technical education teachers. "We look forward to any lessons, demonstrations or hands-on activities to engage our middle school students while you provide knowledge and answer questions that we may not be able to answer."
Georgetown Middle is looking for people who would like to provide an authentic experience for students by visiting the school to give a presentation and allow students the opportunity to discover a greater interest in a certain field. Visits would take place over a 45 minute class period.
"You, your staff and company would have the opportunity to provide students with more insight, as they will be the candidates for the jobs of the future," Schwendtner said.
