LAUREL, Del. - Delaware State Police have arrested a woman for a hate crime at Taco Chabelita.
The agency says 21-year-old Aiyanna Winstead of Laurel placed a food order over the phone on Friday, Dec. 29. A 43-year-old family member went to the restaurant to pick it up and was disorderly with the staff about the order. Troopers say this family member initially refused to leave but eventually did.
A short time later, police say Winstead called the restaurant to argue about the order, making racial statements towards the staff and threatening to shoot them and blow up the restaurant.
Delaware State Police says Winstead and the other family member were both taken into custody and ultimately released on their own recognizances. They were charged with the following crimes:
Winstead charges:
- Hate Crime (Felony)
- Terroristic Threatening – 4 counts
Family member charges:
- Disorderly Conduct
- 2nd Degree Criminal Trespass
