LEWES, Del.- The Historic Lewes Farmers Market’s Farm to Community Program is losing funding in July 2025, and organizers are asking for help to keep it going.

The program, which helps small farmers supply fresh food to local pantries, was funded through the USDA’s Local Food Purchase Assistance Program, which has been discontinued.

Launched in 2023 with the Delaware Department of Agriculture, the initiative pays farmers to grow and distribute food to those in need. It has since expanded, providing fresh produce, meat, dairy, and eggs to 18 food pantries and serving 4,000 individuals weekly from April through December according to HLFM officials.

HLFM says the program has become essential to both small farmers and families facing food insecurity. They are now asking for donations to keep it running.
