Cambridge Police say officers were called to the area of the West Side Bypass and Route 343 around 8:37 p.m. on June 25 for reports of a shooting.

CAMBRIDGE, Md. - A 45-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday evening in Cambridge, prompting a homicide investigation.

Cambridge Police say officers were called to the area of the West Side Bypass and Route 343 around 8:37 p.m. on June 25 for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found the victim, later identified as Steven Lee Dennis of Cambridge, lying on the roadway with a gunshot wound to the upper chest.

A civilian and an off-duty officer were already attempting life-saving measures. Officers continued CPR until Dorchester County EMS arrived and pronounced Dennis dead at the scene.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation of a horrendous act of violence and tragic loss of life in our community,” said the Cambridge Police Department.

Investigators say a passenger car was seen leaving the area on Route 343 shortly after the shooting. No arrests have been announced.
