SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- Two brave and charitable events took place along the Delaware coastline, bringing in 2024 with a splash - quite literally.
The Fenwick Freeze and Leo Brady Cold Plunge saw residents and visitors alike shedding their inhibitions, and more importantly, their warm layers, to take a dip in the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
One of the most anticipated events in Fenwick Island is the Fenwick Freeze. Every year, as the first day of January dawns, brave souls from near and far gather at Bayard St. beach to partake in a rather invigorating tradition - jumping into the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The funds raised through registrations go towards the Fenwick Island Beach Patrol, ensuring the safety of beachgoers throughout the year.
Just a short distance away in Bethany Beach, another daring tradition unfolds on New Year's Day - the Hair of the Dog 5K and Leo Brady Cold Plunge. It is more than just a frigid dip; it's a charitable event that raises funds for scholarships and grants through the Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation. By participating in the event, plungers contribute to the education and future of local students.
Ocean City's Penguin Swim took place Monday as well, benefitting Atlantic General Hospital.
