DOVER, Del. — A 74-year-old Lewes woman is celebrating a $100,000 lottery win after playing Powerball with the Power Play option, according to the Delaware Lottery.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Giant at Lighthouse Plaza Boulevard in Rehoboth Beach. The woman claimed her prize March 17.
Lottery officials said she matched four numbers plus the Powerball in the March 16 drawing. The winning numbers were 7, 10, 20, 47 and 52, with Powerball 20. With the Power Play multiplier set at 2X, her prize increased to $100,000.
The winner, a retired Delaware native who chose to remain anonymous, said she has been playing the lottery for about nine years and does not follow a specific strategy when picking numbers.
She realized she had won after checking the numbers online and said she was ecstatic. The first person she told was her husband. She has not yet decided how she will use the winnings.
“We’re thrilled for this winner and excited to celebrate this significant Powerball® prize,” said Helene Keeley, director of the Delaware Lottery. “Wins like this are always exciting moments, and we encourage all players to enjoy the experience while continuing to play responsibly.”
Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m., with ticket sales closing at 9:45 p.m. on drawing nights. The Power Play option allows players to multiply non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times.
Since 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed $6 billion to the state’s General Fund, supporting public services across Delaware.
