REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Ongoing construction on Munchy Branch Road has left locals frustrated and concerned about safety as traffic is reduced to a single lane and signage they say is minimal.
Crews are currently installing sidewalks and new drainage systems, but neighbors say the work, which began just a month ago, is creating hazardous conditions for both drivers and construction workers.
"It’s not just me," said Hali Confer-Jones, who lives on Munchy Branch Rd. "Some of my neighbors have almost been in head-on collisions." People are driving the wrong way, and I attribute a lot of that to the lack of signage.”
CoastTV reached out to DelDOT regarding concerns over inadequate signage and the absence of flaggers along the road. A spokesperson said the agency is addressing the issue with the contractor responsible for the work R.E. Pierson.
Jackie Goff, a part-time resident of Rehoboth Beach, said she was confused when she returned recently to find her usual entrance changed — and no updated signage to guide her.
"Just the sooner they can do this, the better," Goff said. "It’s busy, which makes it dangerous. It’s not a little country road."
DelDOT said the project is expected to be completed in May.
