MILTON, Del. - A traffic light has been installed at the intersection of Mulberry St. and Route 16 in Milton, but it's not functional yet.
It was at that intersection that a 74 year old woman died after she hit a Sussex County EMS vehicle.
Juan Fernandez says it's time for safety to be a priority.
"There have been a number of accidents there and just you see a lot of people driving far too quickly there. I think that's a good place to put it," said Fernandez.
Randy Minnich can either turn left or right on to Mulberry Street. A left turn will take him towards the intersection.
He says that's something he never does because of the traffic.
"I think it's gonna be a disaster, I really do," said Minnich.
The traffic on 16 and Mulberry is already backed up, especially at this time of the year on Friday's, Saturday's and even on Sunday's. I don't see how a traffic light is going to alleviate anything but speeders," he continued.
With the traffic light set up but not functional, people are left with the stop signs on Mulberry Street and their awareness as their forms of safety.
DelDOT has not yet set a firm date for when the traffic light will become fully operational.
