BALTIMORE - The battle over gun rights and gun laws continues to playout in the courts. In Maryland on Thursday the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit granted the states petition to rehear the case of Maryland Shall Issue v. Wes Moore

Maryland wants to require most citizens to get a license before they can purchase a handgun. However, a three-judge panel ruled that unconstitutional back in November of 2023.

The Office of the Attorney General filed the petition for rehearing last month.

"The ongoing gun violence plaguing our streets and our communities continues to take innocent lives and tear families apart," stated Attorney General Brown. "I welcome the court's decision to rehear this case and will continue to defend common-sense gun laws to protect Marylanders from these unnecessary and very preventable tragedies. Hopes and wishes do not take guns off our streets, but common-sense gun safety laws do."

The state of Delaware is in the middle of a similar battle over gun rights and gun laws. Democrats have put forth permit-to-purchase bills in an effort to enact what they call "common sense" gun legislation that would require people to obtain training and a permit before purchasing a handgun in the state.
