Wicomico County Fair Has Comparable Turnout To 2019

SALISBURY, Md.- Food, music, competitions, and fun. Four words that sum up the excitement of a county fair.

People enjoyed everything it had to offer and even though the weather was not the best, Chairman Zach Evans says the staff was able to deal with the challenges accordingly.

"We increased a lot of our tent sizes in the entertainment ring," Evans said. "We got a bigger tent in the livestock and the show ring. So we had planned for a rain or shine event and we got about an hour of rain all three days but now it’s sunny like your seeing right now."

Evans said the turnout was about the same of 2019 which was encouraging since the fair couldn’t take place last year.

Many people came out Sunday to see the mounted shooters. Competitors riding on horses and aiming to shoot as many balloons as possible in the fastest time.

Len Rubin has performed at the county fair with his band "Riptide" for three years. He was excited to get back on stage and entertain the crowd.

"It’s a good event for the community," Rubin said. "It brings everybody and everybody’s been bottlenecked at home with the COVID. It’s great to be able to go out and enjoy it while you can because it might not be here tomorrow."

Everybody is able to get in on the fun no matter how old they are.

"To see grandmom, the grandkids, there’s something out here for all ages to enjoy," Evans said. "And I think there is no better reward than seeing the smiling faces of people from nine to ninety."
