Milford city council favoring allowing the sale of recreational marijuana

MILFORD, Del.- Milford city council seemingly favors the idea of allowing the sale of recreational marijuana within the city.

Multiple council members showed support of the idea during a discussion at a city workshop Wednesday night.

Milford already has two businesses that grow medical marijuana in the city. Council members said that there is still much discussion to be had, but the city could benefit from allowing the drug in the city.

"I think that one way or another, things are changing and it's okay to accept change when it's being controlled and managed properly," said city councilwoman Katrina Wilson.

Multiple towns in Sussex County have voted to ban the sale of recreational pot, including Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach and Dewey Beach. Per House Bill 2, municipalities are allowed to ban the sale, growth and manufacturing of marijuana within their jurisdictions.

City council decided to hold off on more discussion until the state finalized regulations on the drug. Nothing was voted on at this meeting.
