MILLSBORO, Del. -Â An old theater in downtown Millsboro, originally called "The Ball Theatre" and now called, "The Millstone Theatre," is looking to make a comeback.
The theater was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018. According to owner of the theater, Eric Clarke, it hosted small productions for years before shutting down in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
While the theater is currently closed, people in town say they hope that's not the case for much longer. Clarke says he is working to re-open it.
"It's fun and it's playful, and it will really create that tone in this town, along with all of the other businesses. There is just nothing more cooperative and community building than a theater in town..." says Millsboro local Marcia Childress.
The Millsboro Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Anne Angel, says she supports it's re-opening.
"I have had the opportunity to tour the theater on the inside. The outside does not do it justice at all. It's actually absolutely beautiful and there's a lot of history," says Angel.
Angel also believes the theater can serve a larger purpose for the town.
"Hopefully this could be the beginning of attracting more businesses and restaurants downtown. A theater would be a reason for people to come after hours and, you know, grab dinner and a show," says Angel.
Clarke says he's currently working to iron out a revitalization plan, but he doesn't have an expected date yet as to when the theater may reopen. Clarke says he plans to host live music and movies year-round at the theater for the community to enjoy.
