National Guard member is shot while breaking up a fight in Washington, suspect is hit in return fire
A National Guard member has been shot and injured while trying to break up a fight in the nation's capital. Police say the person suspected of firing the gun Sunday night was shot in an exchange with guard members. Seven or eight guard members in a parked van were monitoring the fight. Interim Police Chief Jeffery Carroll says the guard members went to intervene and heard gunshots. A person involved in the fight had begun shooting. Carroll says the suspect ran into an alley and pointed the weapon at the guard members, who returned fire. The wounded guard member and the suspect were taken to hospitals. President Donald Trump deployed the guard last year.
