REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Developers behind the proposed One Rehoboth Hotel are proposing a significantly different design for the project at the former Dolle’s building in Rehoboth Beach.
The new plans would reduce the number of hotel rooms and retail space, eliminate the pool and second-floor lounge area, and remove the underground parking garage.
Instead, the parking garage is now proposed to be two levels and above ground.
The hotel is planned for the corner of Rehoboth Avenue and Baltimore Avenue. Developers say the changes are necessary because of construction costs.
Rohit Thakkar, who visits Rehoboth Beach, said he would prefer to see less development in the city.
"If you don't need to build anything, don't build it," Thakkar said.
Gayle Monaghan, a local, said she is glad to see something planned for the property.
"I think it's in need. I mean, it's been kind of nothing for a long time, so I'm glad something's going to come," Monaghan said.
The developers are scheduled to appear before the Rehoboth Beach Board of Adjustment to request a variance related to the width of a drive aisle in the parking garage.
The Board of Adjustment is scheduled to hear the request at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24.
