GREENWOOD, Del. – Delaware Electric Cooperative (DEC) and Optiwatt, a prominent telematics-based managed charging platform, have announced an expansion of their smart EV charging pilot partnership. This move aims to support the growing electric vehicle (EV) market and its impact on Delaware's energy grid.
The partnership, which began on May 1 and concluded on September 30, is extending due to the success of its initial phase. It invites EV owners in Delaware to participate in the Electric Vehicle Smart Charging Pilot. This program focuses on monitoring, automating, and managing EV charging in harmony with grid demands.
Participants are incentivized with a $100 reward per vehicle upon signing up and a $5 monthly billing credit during summer, funded directly by DEC.
"The first round of studies was very successful," says Casey Donahue, Optiwatt Founder and CEO. “We’re eager to involve more of the Delaware community in this important research for the EV industry's growth."
To enroll, EV owners need to download the free Optiwatt app available on iOS, Android, and web platforms. The application will automatically register eligible participants in the program.
"Over 100 members have already enrolled, creating an additional 750 kW of shiftable load. This could save tens of thousands of dollars annually in demand costs for our 115,000 members,” Lucas Zlock, DEC Manager of Energy Service said. “In 2024, the goal is to double participation and further market the program."
