ANNAPOLIS, MD. - The Maryland Department of Natural Resources held a meeting today to review recently released data on oysters. Committee members compared this year's numbers to last year's and found a significant drop in harvest totals — especially in oyster bushels.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has released the data on Oysters.
* 2024 bushels were around 700,000
* In 2025 bushels were down to around 300,000
However, the department noted the decline was expected. The 2024 harvest was considered an outlier and not a sustainable benchmark for future years.
The Department of Natural Resources is now seeking feedback from the public. The comment period will begin July 1 and remain open for 60 days through Sept. 1. Comments can be emailed to comments@chesapeakebay.net.
