LEWES,Ā Del. -Ā Pathways to Success is holding a donation drive to help local students facing food insecurity.
The goal of the drive is to stock food pantries at four high schools, including Cape Henlopen, Milford, Polytech and Seaford High Schools.
Donations of non-perishable food items, snacks and drinks are being collected at four drop-off locations, including one in Georgetown and the other three in Lewes.
Snack donations for Pathways to Success in Georgetown.
The donation drives started when a Lewes State Farm agent, Janine O'Donnell, asked the organization what they needed.Ā
The organization is looking for support to provide meals for students who often go without breakfast or dinner. Donations are being accepted until Nov. 20, with the goal of helping students in need throughout the school year.
Sarah Gilmour, the Outreach and Development Manager for Pathways to Success, says she is deeply dedicated to helping the youth.
She says snacks like healthy cereals and granola bars are very helpful.Ā
Gilmour also expressed her gratitude to the numerous organizations helping out which includes State Farm, Habitat for Humanity, the Georgetown Public Library, and The Lodge at Historic Lewes.
Claudia Falvey is part of the social committee at Tidewater Landing. Falvey donated bags of snacks and says no child should ever be hungry.
"She said, you know, the kids are hungry, which was really sobering for us to think that these kids that are working so hard and doing so well are hungry," said Falvey.Ā
Falvey was moved to donate after a number of committee members were invited to a breakfast with the Pathways to Success students.
"We were blown away, just absolutely blown away and impressed by their confidence and just how incredible these young people are," she explained.
It was this experience that she says drives to committee to continue to donate.
For Halloween, they host the similar drive called 'Treats for Success.'
The donation drive concludes on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
