BETHANY BEACH, Del. - A person was airlifted to a hospital Tuesday after getting seriously injured in a fall in the Cotton Patch Hills community, according to the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company.

Fire and EMS crews were dispatched at about 10:15 a.m. to the 29000 block of South Cotton Way for a report of a person trapped beneath a tree.

When crews arrived, they determined no one was trapped. Instead, they found a person who had fallen from a ladder onto a second-floor deck and got seriously injured, the fire company said.

Fire and EMS personnel stabilized the person and safely removed them from the elevated deck before transferring them to an ambulance.

Because of the severity of the injuries, Delaware State Police Aviation Trooper 2 was requested. The helicopter landed on Route 1, where the person was transferred and flown to Christiana Hospital for further treatment.

The fire company did not provide additional information about the person's condition.
