LEWES, Del. - The Preserve Our Park Board Directors' is pleased to report their Delaware Bond Bill committee funds will support phase one capital improvement to investigate Cape Henlopens State Park’s failing water infrastructure.
The funding will be used for critical water studies at the state park. This includes engineering fees and construction to replace the deteriorated 80-year-old cast iron water distribution system at the park.
Preserve our Park says they now plan to create a map of water system, assess what is salvageable, and modernize infrastructure.
After an email writing campaign, with help from the community, POP celebrates the approval.“This was truly a team effort, and we sincerely appreciate your support and participation in helping get this important allocation approved,” says POP.
At the end of the legislative session, the Delaware General Assembly approved a $1.26 billion capital budget funding improvements across the state. $13.1 million was granted for clean and drinking water revolving funds for water infrastructure projects. This includes POP's request for $400,000 for recreational public infrastructure and park facility rehab.
The legislative approval allocation is Section 103 Bond and Capital Improvements. This section allocates funding to specific state parks and recreational projects. It makes an appropriation to the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.
