Dewey Beach explores changes to parking rules

DEWEY BEACH, Del.- It could get more expensive to park in Dewey Beach.

The town's Budget and Finance Committee is recommending a number of changes to current parking regulations. If approved as is, the changes would be as follows:

  • Hourly parking rates would increase from $3.00 per hour to $3.50.
  • Daily parking rates would go from $25 a day to $30.
  • People would have to pay to park Tuesday and Wednesday nights in the summer

The committee voted to keep Dewey's parking season the same, May 15 to September 15. It also recommended that parking stay free on Monday nights.

Dewey has been considering these changes for months as a way to re-examine revenue in the town. The next step would be for commissioners to vote on these.
