REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - The Rehoboth Art League will be hosting a day trip to the Winterthur Museum, Gardens, and Library located in the Brandywine Valley on May 22.
Containing almost 90,000 objects made or used in America since 1640, the Art League says this collection in Winterthur was first assembled by founder Henry Francis du Pont and has been left nearly the same since in the 175-room home. Winterthur also features 1,000 acres of protected meadows and waterways, including the 60-acre garden, designed by du Pont, along with 25 miles of paths and trails to explore the lands.
Passengers to the Winterthur Museum will depart from the Rehoboth Beach Fresh Market parking lot on a Jolly Trolley coach bus at 8:30 a.m. sharp, with check-in beginning at 8:15 a.m. The return trip back to Rehoboth will leave at 2 p.m. and is expected to arrive back at the market by 4:30 p.m.
Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase lunch at the Winterthur Visitor Center Cafe, featuring a variety of sandwiches, salads, sweet treats and beverages to take on the go.
In addition, passengers can use their ticket to get a 30-minute narrated Garden Tram Tour, highlighting the floral beauty of the garden and learning about the history of Winterthur. The tour will begin at the Visitor Center and end at the museum itself.
Tickets, which must be bought in advance before the event, cost $80 and are in limited supply. To purchase tickets, you can visit their website or call 302-227-8408, extension 206.
