REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Unlike previous years, many shops in Rehoboth Beach do not close their doors after Labor Day. During the off season, the crowds coming into the city are significantly less than the summer, therefore, business is much slower. Local businesses help to keep the Rehoboth Beach community alive and growing, so supporting them year round is essential.
"I think that people don't always realize what they're doing for the community when they do shop local because they are helping someone do what they love and live out their dream," explained Phoenix Curby, who works at Four Sisters in downtown Rehoboth Beach.
Throughout the holiday season, the city of Rehoboth Beach hosts numerous holiday activities like visiting Santa on the boardwalk and the annual city Christmas tree lighting. While these events provide fun for the whole family, they also help to bring people into the city during the slower months. Local businesses appreciate these events because they help with business exposure.
"So coming into the downtown in the holiday season, for one thing there's great things here, there's a tree, there's the decorations that really put you in the spirit, but also it's healthy for the town overall, so that the town is exciting, and interesting in all seasons, not just the summertime," said Patti Garrison who works at Boutique W.
Supporting local shops in the winter, allows them to stay open in the summer for everyone to enjoy.
