REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - The holiday tree by the bandstand stands shorter than expected this year. The city says the tree snapped shortly after it arrived on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the City of Rehoboth Beach says the tree snapped while it was being lifted off the trailer, possibly due to dryness.

This did not stop the installation process. The tree was able to be salvaged and now two-thirds of it are on display, standing 25 ft. tall instead of the original 40 ft.

Rehoboth Beach's tree lighting is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 24. Festivities start at the bandstand at 6 pm with the Cape Brass Ensemble performing holiday music. The city says attendees can sing along with the Clear Space Theater Chorus. The countdown to the official lighting starts at 7 p.m.

The 21-year-old arborvitae was donated by Dean and Debbie Smith, who also donated last year's holiday tree.
